| 高齢者の視機能の特長と適応について述べ, この時期に, 眼疾患により視覚情報が遮断された場合に発生すると考えられる高齢者の精神, 運動障害およびそれらによる老化の促進, 寿命の短縮について説明した.高齢者に好発する眼疾患の内, 老人性白内障の病態を説明し, 最近の治療の変遷がテクノロジーの進歩に起因している事を示した.また近代的眼科顕微鏡手術によって得られる患者の利得について考察した.視機能の改善は単に手術療法のみならず向神経作動薬併用や術前術後の視能矯正がさらに高度な視機能の回復に重要である事を示した.高齢者における視機能の回復は高次脳機能や運動能力を回復させ, ひいては高齢者の痴呆の予防, 寿命の延長, 社会的独立にも寄与すると考えられた. | ||||||||

| The characteristics of visual function during the senile period and adaptation of this function were described. During such a period of restricted residual function, disease has a critical effect on the higher integrated brain function in aged people. This may lead to an acceleration of aging and a shortening of lifespan. The pathogenesis of senile cataracts and the technological advancement of the cataract surgery and their benefits for patients were explained. An excellent visual outcome was achieved not only by surgical treatment but also with pre and post operative orthoptics and neurochemotherapy. An excellent visual outcome may possibly prevent the aging and prolong the lifespan and social independence in the aged people following recovery of higher brain integration and motor function. | ||||||||
