| The purpose of this paper was to analyse differences in thinking about carework by researching Japanese and German students at professional schools for certified careworkers. Questionaries were sent to 333 Japanese students at 4 schools and 176 German students at 7 schools. The results are as follows. Both Japanese and German students felt that the social status of careworkers was low and had an unfavorable impression of the nursing homes. But German students, more so than Japanese students, felt that careworkers work with nurses as colleages rather than assistants in the care of the aged. This was probably due to differences in the culture and history of carework in the two countries. | ||||||||||
