福祉領域における英語リーディング教材開発にあたって,まず全国の福祉系の大学・短期大学(日本社会事業学校連盟校)で使用されている教材調査を行い,英語教育におけるリーディングの位置付けと教材種別を確認した.その結果,オーラル・コミュニケーションと同程度にリーディング教育は重要な位置を占めていることが明らかとなった.教材種別は,圧倒的に異文化理解および時事英語が多く,国際化の時代に対応しようとする教育側の姿勢が反映されている.しかし,福祉を学ぶ学生を対象とする新しい教材開発をめざす本研究にとって,自作教材とESP(English for Specific Purposes)教材は量的には多くないが注目に値する.福祉領域におけるESPのSは,その対象者が多岐に亘ることに由来する多義性が福祉の特有性であると考え,教材のテーマを検討した結果,その福祉特有の多義性,多岐性を具体化する「人間・人権・いのち」とした.本教材開発は純粋の,と言うよりも広い意味でのESP教材開発である.本稿の主要目的は,英語教材を調査し,それによってリーディングの位置付けを確認し,教材作成の基本方針を検討,作成手順を決定することである.その結果作成した教材実例および授業活用方法を参考に示した. |

In developing new English reading materials for welfare students, we made a survey of the syllabuses of universities and colleges in the field of welfare in Japan. As a result, we found that reading classes are dominant as well as oral-aural communication classes. As for reading textbooks, their topics are mainly concerned with cross-cultural understanding and aural-oral communication. However, self-prepared materials or ESP materials, though the numbers are rather few, deserve our attention when developing new reading materials. By taking into account the multiple features of welfare, we were able to decide upon the following theme for our textbook: "humanity, human rights and life." According to this theme, we divided our text into the following topics: the child, the elderly, the disabled, women, the discriminated, and volunteers. Each chapter concludes with two parts: 1) The Japanese law and international conventions. 2) Various English books such as fairly tales, novels and non-fictions and reference books on social welfare. We show some examples of these materials at the end of this paper. |
