| 分子遺伝学の急速な進歩に伴い,遺伝要因の関与する疾患の相対頻度が上昇し,遺伝病はありふれた疾患のひとつとなってきた.それに伴い遺伝病の医療(遺伝医療)の重要性が増している.遺伝医療の定義と特性を解説し,遺伝病のとらえ方,包括医療について実例を挙げながら概説した.遺伝カウンセリングや出生前診断も避けて通れない医療領域で,その基本的な考え方,倫理的・法的・社会的諸問題にも触れた.遺伝医療は新しい医療で,倫理的配慮が最も重要視される医療のひとつである.WHOによる生命倫理ガイドラインを紹介した.遺伝医療の根底にあるのは個人の尊厳と自己決定権の尊重であり,遺伝病者の利益を最優先させることの重要性を強調したい. | ||||||||

| Recent advances in molecular genetics have clarified the high prevalence of genetic diseases: mendelian disorders, chromosomal abnormalities, and common disorders. Within the next decade, newborn and carrier screening, and screening for common diseases such as heart disease, cancer, and neurodegenerative diseases, may greatly increase the role of genetics within primary health care. An overview of medical genetics and genetic services are presented. The Ethical Legal Social Issues (ELSI) of medical genetics, e.g., prenatal diagnosis and abortion, choices about alternatives in assisted reproduction, are discussed. Respect for persons underlines all statements in Ethical Guidelines in Medical Genetics (WHO, 2002). Respect for persons includes informed consent, right to referral, full disclosure, protection of confidentiality, and respect for children in the context of genetic screening. | ||||||||
