| 高年齢になっても心身ともに健康で, 自活能力をもち続けることは誰もが望む未来の姿である.しかし体力の衰えや種々の生理機能のトラブルが中・高年齢になるとしだいに増加してくる.この変化には眼に見えるトラブルと眼に見えない生理的機能のトラブルがあり, 後者である五感のトラブルは加齢と共に衰退してくる.その中でも加齢によっておこる眼のトラブル(視覚)は, 調節力の衰えから起こるものと, 脳・神経疾患に由来するものがある.このような中・高齢者に頻発する視機能の障害に対して, 近年の神経生理学の考え方を基にした新しい視能矯正で, 約70%は機能回復が得られ, 各々のQOLが高まっている.訓練療法は患者の積極的で主体的な努力と意欲が機能回復の大きな鍵であるが, それにもまして家族, 仲間など周囲の支えば驚くべき早期の社会復帰を促している.外には見えない感覚の障害に対して, 偏見を取り払い, 障害を共に受容する心の共同体の支えば「心に生きがいが生ずる」.この新しい視能矯正を紹介する. | ||||||||

| Everyone desires to maintain health and the ability to support oneself, even being aged. However, people should face a decline in physical power and various physiological dysfunctions with aging. These age-related changes include both externally apparent and non-apparent troubles. As the latter physiological troubles, the five senses become weakened with aging. Among these sensory troubles, visual disorder can be caused by either accommodated weakness or central nervous disease. New orthoptics devised on the basis of the newest neuroscience has been used to correct visual disorder frequently occurring in middle-aged and aged people and can restore visual function in about 70% and improve their QOL. In orthoptic training, the patient's active and independent effort and volition are essential to the restoration of function, but the support by family member (s), relative (s), and/or friend (s) tremendous-ly facilitates the patients to return to previous social life within a very short period of time. Everybody sees the same world, but feels very differently. If patients are supported by their close company as a collaborative body, visual dysfunction, a sensory disorder that cannot be seen externally, is fully accepted without biased view, orthoptics can make their lives worth living. | ||||||||
