年理科の「動物の誕生」の単元では,生命の連続性を理解する取り組みとして,メダカの個体発生を学習する.通常,メダカの飼育観察と,胚発生を顕微鏡下で観察する活動が一般的である.しかし,メダカの飼育や胚の観察指導に困難を感じる教員は多く,そのため,児童が観察する時間・内容が不十分な場合も多い.そもそも小学校教育において,胚発生の経時的変化を続けて観察することは不可能であり,実際には断片的な観察と教科書の図に頼って理解することとなる.このような課題を踏まえ,教材として顕微鏡下で撮影したタイムラプス動画を併用することを提案する.本動画を用いることにより,断片的な観察に対して参照すべき場面を明示し,観察できなかった発生過程を連続的に理解することが可能となる.このような動画の活用は,ICT 教育の実践として,また,視覚的情報を用いたTEACCH
