This study sought to determine from the literature the methods used by nurses to confirm the wishes of patients with severe motor and intellectual disabilities. A literature search was conducted using the web version of the medical journal, and 10 references were selected as target references. The target literature was carefully read, and sentences describing the method of confirming intentions were extracted and analyzed. As a result, the following five categories were extracted [Interpretation based on the accumulation of involvement], [Exploration based on interaction], [Attempts to understand intentions], [Judgment using objective indicators], and [Consideration and sharing with others]. The nurses had a foundation of trying to understand the intentions of the patients with severe motor and intellectual disabilities, and used the information obtained from repeated interactions to confirm their intentions. The results were reviewed and shared with others to provide a more reliable method of confirmation.
