The subjects of the study were 35 physical therapists, occupational therapists, and speech therapists engaged in a convalescent rehabilitation ward, to whom a free-response questionnaire on matters related to patients’positive outcome expectations for rehabilitation was administered. The questionnaire results were then analyzed and categorized according to the KJ method. The results were sorted into 5 major categories and 13 medium categories. The major categories were ; rehabilitation to improve physical and mental function, activity, and participation, behaviors to be practiced in the ward and their effects, effects of the surrounding encouragement and environmental settings, emotions and thoughts to increase motivation for rehabilitation, and advice from professionals to improve function and life. There were 0 to 4 medium categories in each category. In this study, the items that influenced the positive outcome expectancy for rehabilitation were based on the therapists’own knowledge and experience.
