Local governments and voluntary organizations have established several childcare support services, however, some caregivers do not actively use these services. This study investigated the effects of two aspects of caregivers’ self-focus on seeking childrearing help. We hypothesized that rumination, the dysfunctional aspect, is negatively related to help-seeking preferences, whereas reflection, the functional aspect, is positively related to help-seeking preferences, and the preference for help-seeking contributes to decreasing childcare anxiety. We also investigated the caregivers’ perceived social support, the perceived stressfulness of their child, and the use of local governments’ childrearing support services. The participants were recruited at local governments’ health examinations for infants and toddlers. Caregivers (N = 179) responded to a questionnaire with no missing values. There were no significant relationships between reflection and any of the variables, except rumination. Structural equation modeling indicated direct and indirect effects of rumination on childcare anxiety through the unwillingness to seek help. Also, perceived support from family and relatives and support from a spouse affected childcare anxiety directly and indirectly by decreasing the child’s perceived stressfulness or a caregiver’s unwillingness to seek help.
