An anonymous self-administered questionnaire survey using ENDCOREs and NCSI with free description of intentions for communication with the elderly was conducted with 246 second-year and third-year students of University A (valid responses: 35 second graders and 57 third graders). As for intentions for communication with the elderly, frequencies of “talk”, “see”, and “hear” were high in the second grade, while frequencies of “see”, “eye contact,” and “talk” were high in the third grade. ENDCOREs showed no significant difference in all 6 subfactors both by grade and by frequency of meeting the elderly. NCSI showed significantly higher “skills to show a hearing attitude” in the third grade than in the second grade (p=0.02). The group with high frequency of meeting the elderly had significantly higher “skills to hear unspeakable feelings” than the group with low frequency (p=0.03).
