For many students, continued stress and isolation because of maladjustment cause secondary mental disorders. Therefore, additional considerations in terms of education are required for students with characteristics of developmental needs so as to allow them to envision a future that suits their abilities. Such considerations include support for encouraging acceptance of disabilities, supportive responses to mental health- related issues, and career support. We conducted individual career support about two years, based on an evaluation of developmental and individual needs, for students with developmental needs who were undergoing crises in relation to occupational identity at medical and welfare universities. The participants gained a deeper self-awareness by learning about their developmental needs and the social skills likely to be needed for future occupations; further, the participants were able to select work styles that suited their abilities.
