Student guidance is an educational activity aiming to build a relationship of“people coexisting by acknowledging each other’s differences and trying to build an equal relationship.”In short,student guidance is to make young students think of the meaning of“Multicultural Coexistence”and nurture them into persons who will take actions for the achievement of society where we can live better with others. “Multicultural Coexistence”is to also embrace various relationships between all people: those with and without disabilities or those with different genders,and those who have different cultures,traditions,and values. It is important that we engage in student guidance with the purpose of achieving such“Multicultural Coexistence”in our school education. This essay, therefore,clarifies the role of teachers in developing better human relationships. It also describes the ideal way of student guidance for achieving“Multicultural Coexistence”at school. Teachers can develop the young students’ ability to build human relationships through one-to-one conversations with the students and having classroom practices focused on exploring the meaning of the real sense of learning which then becomes the basis for achieving “Multicultural Coexistence.” In conducting such classes,teachers also need to“reflect”on their own attitudes, words,and ways of thinking through which they can“converse with themselves.”Also,teachers who interact with young students as their“dialogue counterpart”will be able to discover“things about themselves that they were not aware of.”The“human relationship learning program”which focuses on having a dialogue does not only nurture and empower the young students and their self-esteem but also the teachers who engage in the program.
