The purpose of this study was to assess for necessity of discussion about the definitions of occupational therapy. The author conducted an investigation into the sophomores awareness of three definitions related to occupational therapy that are representative in our country.\n　Forty-one students specializing in occupational therapy participated in the questionnaire survey at the beginning of the second year. The contents of the investigation included the students' notions and images of the definitions. Furthermore, the investigation included the appropriateness and the preference of the definitions. Also, the author investigated the awareness of the co-existence of definitions in our country.\n　The awareness of each definition indicated a different tendency. Also, the author found that critical awareness in relation to the definitions was tenuous.
