The aim was to eliminate self-injurious behavior occurring especially after lunchtime. The careworker used 3 different approaches to try to eliminate this problem behavior. The first intervention was holding the arms of the child firmly, while standing in front of the child, to prevent the problem behavior. The second intervention was having the child take 30 minutes for lunch instead of 15 minutes. The third intervention was holding the arms of the child firmly while standing behind the child. Because the child showed a pleasant interest in the first intervention, the self-injurious problem behavior increased instead of decreasing. The result of the second and third interventions were much better and the self-injurious behavior decreased quite well after lunchtime. But the same interventions did not have any results during other times of the day.
