But a guideline was reported in 1989 by a study committee of the profession) task on medical social worker. In this report, a retrospective investigation was done about the changing process of the role, definition, task, and professional eduction of the medical worker through the examination of official documents which were published or reported by the Japanese ministry of public health and other related organizations. In this report, an objective period was settled from 1947 to 1964. Documents from 1965 to 1989 will be examined in the next report. Results : 1 . After 10 years of the health center act, medical social worker held a position as \"one of the medical team\" and expanded its object from \"patient\" to \"patient, his family, and community\". 2 . At the sametime, medical social work expanded its professional technique from \" case work\" to \"case work, group work, social work research, a part of community organization, and a part of social work administration\". 3 .
