The training period is 3 years, with 4,600 hours. The training contents are composed of \"14 learning areas\" over four different fields. On-the-job training is systematically conducted in view of the development of human resources; for example, a \"training contract\" is concluded as a dual system between individual trainees and the institutions accepting them. Qualifications required of teachers at elderly care worker training schools include completion of the 3-year course of an elderly care worker training school, work experience, the receiving of training for teachers of elderly care, and graduation from a teacher training college. In principle, the profession of teaching elderly care is limited to those working as elderly care workers. On the other hand, qualifications required for on-the-job training instructors consist of at least 2 years of work experience, any professional qualification adequate for elderly care, and the receiving of training for nursing-care instructors. It should be noted that in Germany, collaborative education among multiple professions is being introduced into elderly care. It is necessary to provide collaborative education for Japanese students as well to nurture competence that will help them in actual practice after graduation.
