Seven healthy subjects and two hemiplegics were studied. The Tamarack joint was used as the ankle joint for plastic ankle-foot orthoses. Ankle and knee joint moments in the walking stance phase were measured using a force plate and 3-dimensional motion analysis equipment. The results showed that, rigidity of the Tamarack joint had little effect in normal subjects, but knee joint moment during the early stance phase was very high in hemiplegic subjects when the Tamarack joint was very stiff.
