Information was obtained by questionnaire from 410 patients undergoing CAPD. Patients were divided into two groups, those who were less than 65 years old at initiation of CAPD and those were older than 65. The mental, emotional, and psychological changes, pre- and post- therapy, were analyzed and compared in these two groups, in relation to the knowledge and information these patients had received. 70% of the patients had decided by themselves to accept the CAPD treatment, and the remainder had had doubts about receiving treatment. Half of the elderly group had selected CAPD by themselves, based on negative reasons, feeling anxiety at the initiation of CAPD. From the results of this study, it would be important, from a nursing standpoint, to make an effort to give more therapeutic information to elderly people early on.
