Twenty of these forty isolates were aerobic or facultative anaerobic Gram-positive endospore-forming rods and were identified as the member of genus Bacillus. The other 20 isolates were aerobic or facultative anaerobic Gram-positive endospore-not-forming rods (10 isolates), aerobic Gram-positive cocci ( 3 isolates) and aerobic or facultative Gram-negative rods ( 7 isolates). Many isolates were shown to have a broad temperature range for protease production from 21 C to 53 C, and optimum of it was 37 C. The optimum temperature for protease production was 21 C with 2 isolates and was 53 C with 1 isolate. The effect of pH on protease production was also studied, and it was observed that many isolates could produce protease over broad range pH from pH 3 to pH 11,and the optimum of it was pH 7. The optimum pH for protease production was pH 3 with 1 isolate and was pH 11 with 1 isolate.
